Who Called Me UK?
Who called me? Check any UK number for free
Missed a call from a number you do not know? Type it into the box above to see who might be behind it. Number Finder shows what kind of number it is, where it is registered, what it costs to call back and what other people have reported about it, so you can decide whether to call back, block it or ignore it.
So far Number Finder has 14,128 UK numbers on record and 184 reports from visitors. Reports come from people who were called, not from a paid database, so a number with no reports has simply not been reported yet.
Who rang me? How to check an unknown number
- Do not call back straight away. Calling an unknown number can cost money and confirms that yours works.
- Enter the full number in the search box, with the leading 0 or +44.
- Read the result. You will see the number type, the area, the cost to call and the community verdict.
- Read the reports. Other people often describe what the caller said or wanted.
- Add your own report if you were called. It helps the next person who searches the same number.
- Block the number in your phone settings if it is unwanted.
Whose number is this? What the start of a number tells you
The first digits of a UK number show what type it is and roughly what a call costs. They do not prove who the caller is.
| Starts with | Type | Cost to call |
|---|---|---|
| 01 / 02 | Landline | Standard landline rate |
| 03 | Non-geographic (03) | Same as 01/02 rate |
| 07 | Mobile | Mobile rate |
| 0800 / 0808 | Freephone (0800/0808) | Free to call |
| 084 / 087 | Business-rate (084/087) | Access + service charge |
| 09 | Premium rate (09) | Premium rate |
| 070 | Personal number (070) | Higher than mobile |
| 055 / 056 | Corporate / VoIP (055, 056) | Varies by provider |
Landline numbers also show a place. Look up any code in our list of UK area codes, see which network a mobile number might belong to in the UK mobile networks directory, read about 07 mobile prefixes and 03 numbers, or see how to dial a number from abroad with the UK country code +44.

Common scam call types in the UK
If the caller claimed to be one of these, read the guide before you do anything else.
What to do about unwanted and scam calls
- Banks: if a caller says they are from your bank, hang up and call back on the number on your card, or dial 159.
- Sales calls: register free with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) to stop live sales calls from UK companies.
- Scam calls and texts: text the number to 7726 to report it to your network for free.
- Fraud: report it to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.
- Last caller: on many landlines, dial 1471 to hear the last number that rang you.
- Never share passwords, PINs or one-time codes with an unexpected caller, however genuine they sound.

Who called me UK: common questions
How do I find out who called me from an unknown number?
Type the full number into the search box at the top of this page. You will see what type of number it is, where it is from, what a call costs and what other people have reported about it. Do not call back or share personal details until you have checked.
Can Number Finder tell me the name of the caller?
Not always. For most numbers we show the number type, the area, the cost to call and the reports visitors have left. A name only appears when someone mentions it in a report, so we do not claim to identify every caller.
Is Who Called Me UK free?
Yes. Looking up a number and reading its reports is free and needs no account. You can also add your own report for a number that called you.
What should I do if I get a call from a number I do not recognise?
You do not have to answer. If you do, never share bank details, passwords or one-time codes with an unexpected caller. Hang up, look the number up here, and if it claims to be your bank, call back on the number on your card or dial 159.
Can I find out who rang me from a withheld or No Caller ID number?
No. A withheld number cannot be looked up. Your phone provider may offer a setting that blocks withheld calls, and if the calls are threatening you can report them to the police.
How do I stop unwanted sales calls?
Register your number with the free Telephone Preference Service (TPS). It stops legitimate UK companies making live sales calls, but it will not stop scammers or overseas callers, so you should still check unknown numbers and block the ones that bother you.
How do I report a scam call?
Add a report on the number's page here so other people can see it, report scam calls and texts to your network by texting 7726, and report fraud to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.
