The National Telephone Numbering Plan is a system for assigning telephone numbers to UK
subscribers. The local phone number is the 5 to 8 digits dial after your area code. Almost all
UK numbers, including dialling codes, are 11 figures long.
Since April 2001, all geographic numbers and most non-geographic phone numbers now have 9 or 10
national (significant) digits.
The system was established by Ofcom, which supports local landline or mobile phone calls. The
'0'-lead prefix designates geographic regions such as London area code 020.
